Biggest ever Global Greening lights up the world
~ 470 iconic landmarks in 55 countries go green ~

Last week, 470 sites and iconic landmarks in 55 countries around the world turned green for St Patrick’s Day – all part of Tourism Ireland’s Global Greening initiative and our extensive spring promotional campaign to boost travel to the island. This was our biggest Global Greening to date and a big thank you to our friends at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Irish Embassy network overseas for all their help and support. We estimate that the initiative generated positive publicity overseas worth well in excess of €10M in advertising terms at an important time for travel and holiday decision-making.

Our press release is here and a growing gallery of highlights here. And below is a little taster of some of the highlights.

Tourism Ireland's 2019 Global Greening

New sites for 2019 included the Burj Khalifa in Dubai (the world’s tallest building), Victoria Falls, York’s medieval City Walls, Lord’s Cricket Pavilion in London, Nation Towers in Abu Dhabi, the Atakule Tower in Ankara and the Shizuoka Stadium ECOPA in Japan (where Ireland will play Japan in the Rugby World Cup in September).

They were joined by some ‘old favourites’ – including the Sydney Opera House, the London Eye, the Colosseum, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Great Wall of China, Niagara Falls and the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro.
